நேரம் தவறாமையும் திரு லியோ சார்லஸ்  அவர்களும்  (சுறுக்கமாக)

1998 க்கு ஒரு ஃப்ளாஷ் பேக்

I happen to work as a computer software developer for a big civil contractor, Mr.Leo Charles. He was a Pre-qualified Contractor. It means that he had done projects worth one crore and above.

ஒரு பெரிய சிவில் அல்லது கட்டட ஒப்பந்ததாரர்,   திரு.லியோ சார்லஸ்  அவர்களிடம் நான் ஒரு கணினி மென்பொருள் மேம்பாட்டாளராக வேலையில் இருந்தேன்.  அவர் ஒரு "பிரீ குவாலிஃபைடு" ஒப்பந்தக்காரராக இருந்தார். அதாவது அவர் ஒரு கோடி மற்றும் அதற்கும் மேற்பட்ட ரூபாய் மதிப்புள்ள  கட்டிட திட்டங்களை செய்துள்ளார்.

He was the Managing Director of M/s. BrickSteel Enterprises, Salem. He was a crorepati and a very sincere Christian. A person with good manners and a kind heart.

அவர் M/s. பிரிக்ஸ்ஸ்டீல் இன் நிர்வாக இயக்குனர் ஆவார். அவர் ஒரு கோடீஸ்வரர்  மற்றும் மிகவும் நேர்மையான ஒரு கிறிஸ்தவரும் ஆவார். மேலும் அவர் நல்ல நடத்தையும்  நல்ல மனமம உள்ளவர்.

I can’t forget the VIP treatment he gave me in the inauguration function of his new house. 

தனது புதிய வீட்டின் திறப்பு விழாவில் அவர் எனக்கு வழங்கிய   வி.ஐ.பி.(VIP) உபசரிப்பை என்னால் மறக்க முடியாது. 

Since, I was a physically challenged person, I had difficulty in sitting down on the floor like others and eat.

நான் உடல் ரீதியாக சவால் உள்ள ஒரு நபர். ஆகையால், மற்றவர்களை போல் தரையில் உட்கார்ந்து சாப்பிடுவதில் எனக்கு சிரமம் இருந்தது.

However, he made me sit in a separate  room and made his family members  serve exclusively for me like a VIP. 

எனினும், அவர் என்னை ஒரு "விஐபி" போல ஒரு தனி அறையில் உட்கார வைத்து, அவரது குடும்ப உறுப்பினர்களை  கொண்டு எனக்கு பிரத்தியேகமாக உணவு சேவை செய்ய செய்தார்.

It was a great honour for me and I could not forget the experience. 

இது எனக்கு ஒரு பெரிய மரியாதை மற்றும்  மறக்க முடியாத அனுபவம் ஆகும். 

Very few rich people show such extremely good manners to physically challenged persons.

மிகச் சில செல்வந்தர்களே உடல் ரீதியாக சவால் உடைய  நபர்கள் மேல்  இப்படி மிகவும் நல்ல நடத்தையை காட்டுகிறார்கள்.

Punctuality / நேரம் தவறாமை

For almost four months I would go to our office at SBI Colony No. III near TPT exactly at 9:30am. 

கிட்டத்தட்ட நான்கு மாதங்களுக்கு நான் டிபிடிடிக்கு  ( TPT, SALEM ) அருகே எஸ்.பி.ஐ. காலனி மூன்றில் ( III இல் ) சரியாக  9:30 மணிக்கு எங்கள் அலுவலகத்திற்குச் சென்றடைவேன்.

Mr.Charles will generally be 15 days in Salem and 15 days touring all over Tamilnadu. 

பொதுவாக திரு.லியோ சார்லஸ்  அவர்கள்   சேலத்தில் 15  நாட்களும், தமிழ் நாட்டிலுள்ள மற்ற ஊர்களில்  15 நாட்களும் இருப்பார். 

He will visit his on going civil project sites. 

அங்கு நடக்கும் அவர் கம்பெனி கட்டிட  அல்லது சிவில் திட்டப்பணி தளங்களில் மேற்பாரவை செய்ய செல்வார். 

Almost four or five days in a month exactly at 9:30am when my TVS-50 stand makes a screeching and  parking noise at my office.

சரியாக 9:30 மணிக்கு, எங்கள்  அலுவலகத்தில் கீழ் தளத்தில்  என் டிவிஎஸ்.50 ஸ்டாண்ட் போடும் "கீச்"  சத்தம்  வரும்.

I would immediately hear a bang! It would be Mr.Leo Charles’s car door slamming shut or his house door slamming shut.

உடனே  கனப்பொழுதில்  "டமார்" என்று எனக்கு ஒரு சப்தம் கேட்கும். அது திரு. லியோ சார்லஸ் அவர்களின்  "கார்" கதவு மூடப்படும் சப்தமாக இருக்கும். அல்லது அவரது வீட்டு வாசல் கதவு மூடப்பட்டும் சப்தமாக இருக்கும். 

This will happen about 4 or 5 times in a month.

ஒரு மாதத்தில் கிட்டத்தட்ட நான்கு அல்லது ஐந்து நாட்கள் இப்படி நடக்கும்.

I know by my CASIO digital watch that I was very punctual at least 20 days in a month.

ஒரு மாதத்தில் குறைந்தபட்சம் 20.நாட்களுக்கு நான் மிகவும் கட்சிதமாக 9:30 மணிக்கு ஆபீஸ் வந்து அடைவேன்  என்று என்னுடைய CASIO டிஜிட்டல் கை கடிகாரம் எனக்கு சாட்சி  கூறும். 

Though I could meet Mr.Charles only a few times in a month, I came to know "he too" was very punctual like me.

அதே போல ஒரு மாதத்தில் திரு.லியோ சார்லஸ்ஸை நான்  சில முறையே சந்திக்க முடிந்தாலும், அவரும் "என்னைப் போலவே"  மிகவும் கட்சிதமாக நேரத்தை காப்பவர் என்று  நான் தெரிந்து கொண்டேன்.

** ASKED  FOR DRINKING WATER, BUT GOT TEA

குடிக்க தண்ணீர்  வேண்டும்  என்று கேட்டேன் ஆனால் கிடைத்ததோ  தேநீர் (டீ)

Let me narrate an incident that happened when I was working here. 

நான் இங்கு வேலை செய்தபோது நடந்த ஒரு சம்பவத்தை  விவரிக்கிறேன்.

On the first week of my working, I could not find any drinking water in the office. 

என் வேலை முதல் வாரத்தில், அலுவலகத்தில் எந்த குடிநீரும் என்னால் கண்டுபிடிக்க முடியவில்லை.

It seems a maid servant who was in-charge of his house-hold work was also filling the water drum in the office. 

அவருடைய வீட்டிற்குப் பணிபுரியும்  ஒரு பணிப்பெண் தான் அலுவலகத்தில் தண்ணீர் "டிரம்" ஒன்றை நிரப்புகிறார் என்று அறிந்தேன். 

In spite of my repeated reminders to the manager and the maid, I could not get the drinking water. 

மேலாளர் மற்றும்  அந்த வேலைக்காரியிடம் அடிக்கடி குடிநீர் வேண்டும் என்ற  நினைவூட்டல்கள் செய்த போதிலும்,  என்னால் குடிநீர் பெற முடியவில்லை. 

So, I started to carry my own drinking water for a day or two to office. 

எனவே, நான் அடுத்த நாள் முதல் அலுவலகத்திற்கு என் சொந்த குடிநீரை எடுத்து  போகத் தொடங்கினேன்.

But suddenly carrying the extra weight for 2 floors, made me wonder whether I should really continue working in such a company.  An office that couldn't give me drinking water.

ஆனால் திடீரென்று 2 மாடிகளுக்கு கூடுதல் எடையை எடுத்துக்கொண்டு, போகும் போது,  குடிநீர் கூட கொடுக்க முடியாத இத்தகைய நிறுவனத்தில் நான் தொடர்ந்து பணியாற்ற வேண்டுமா? என்று எனக்கு தோன்றியது.

Hence, the next day I met my boss, Mr.Leo Charles and reported the problem. 

எனவே, அடுத்த நாள் என் முதலாளி, திரு. லியோ சார்லஸைச் சந்தித்தேன். புகார் செய்தேன். 

He immediately called the manager and gave some money and asked him to get a new drum to store drinking water. 

அவர் உடனடியாக மேலாளரை அழைத்து சிறிது பணம் கொடுத்தார், குடிநீரைச் சேமிப்பதற்கு ஒரு புதிய டிரம் ஒன்றை வாங்க சொன்னார. 

And also asked him to ensure water is available in the office henceforth.

மேலும் இனிமேல் அலுவலகத்தில் தண்ணீர் கிடைப்பதை உறுதி செய்யும்படி அவரிடம்
கூறினார்.

Next he called his wife and enquired whether she is supplying the scheduled tea to the office at 11 am and 4 pm. 

அடுத்து அவர் தனது மனைவியை அழைத்து, 11 மணிக்கும் மேலும் 4 மணியளவில் அலுவலகத்திற்கு திட்டமிடப்பட்ட தேநீர் அளிக்கிறாரா என வினவினார்.  

She said “No” and gave some excuses. He immediately ordered her that from the next day onwards tea should be provided to the office at the two scheduled timings.

அவர் "இல்லை" என்றார் மற்றும் சில சாக்குகள்  கொடுத்தார்.  அவர் உடனடியாக அடுத்த நாள் முதல் தேநீர் திட்டமிடப்பட்ட நேரங்களில் அலுவலகத்திற்கு வழங்கப்பட வேண்டும் என்று கட்டளையிட்டார்.

I was wonder-struck at the professionalism of Mr.Charles. 

திரு. லியோ சார்லஸின் தொழில் நேர்த்தியை கண்டு  நான் வியந்தேன்.

I asked for water, but from the next day we all got tea. 

நான் தண்ணீர் கேட்டேன், ஆனால் அடுத்த நாளிலிருந்து எங்களுக்கு தேநீரே கிடைத்தது.!!  

Great man, I thought, Mr Leo Charles is !

பெரிய மனிதர் தான் திரு. லியோ சார்லஸ் என்று நான் எண்ணினேன்.

Though I worked with him for a few years the software project was not assigned to me. 

சில ஆண்டுகள் நான் அவருடன் பணிபுரிந்திருந்தாலும், மென்பொருள் திட்டம் எனக்கு ஒதுக்கப்படவில்லை. 

Hence, I got bored up and had to leave the company when I had a better opening. 

எனவே, நான் சலிப்படைய ஆரம்பித்தேன். வேறு நல்ல வேலை வாய்ப்பு  கிடைத்த போது அந்த  நிறுவனத்தை விட்டு வெளியேற வேண்டியிருந்தது.  

However, working with Mr.Leo Charles, at  Ms.BrickSteel Enterprises, Salem was a very  enjoyable and unforgettable experience. 

இருப்பினும், திரு. லியோ சார்லஸுடன்  (பிரிக்ஸ் ஸ்டீல் என்டர்பிரைசஸ், சேலம் ) பணிபுரிந்த அனுபவம் மிகவும் , மறக்கமுடியாததாகவும்  சுவாரஸ்யமான  அனுபவமாகவும் இருந்தது. 

It was unfortunate that I had to leave him.

நான் அவரை விட்டு செல்ல வேண்டுயது  ஒரு பெரிய  துரதிருஷ்டமாக இருந்தது.

If my students or learners were regularly late to my Spoken English classes I would narrate in detail the above incidents to them. 

என் மாணவர்கள் என்  ஆங்கில வகுப்புகளுக்கு அடிக்கடி தாமதமாக வந்தால், மேலே கூறப்பட்ட சம்பவங்களைப் பற்றி நான் விரிவாகக் கூறுவேன். 

And then make them realize that "punctuality" is a characteristic they should learn to develop or cultivate in their life. 

பின்னர் "காலம் தவறாமை"  என்ற சிறப்பு இயல்பை அவர்கள் வாழ்க்கையில் அவசியம் வளர்த்துக்  கொள்ள வேண்டும்  என்பதை அவர்களுக்கு உணரவைப்பேன்.
