I AM INDEBTED TO DR Rajkumar says Venkatachalam Salem
[THIS IS A DUPLICATE AND IMPROVED VERSION]
A GOOD DOCTOR AND A NICE HUMAN BEING.
(This article was written on the eve of Deepawali)
A flashback.
In 2010, I was running an English training institute at Salem Four Roads (Muniappan Temple near).
My English institute was in a complex with about 5 rooms. An electrical shop, medical shop and three doctors were also there. My room was at the last.
Dr. Rajkumar, an Ortho Specialist and his wife Dr. Niraimathi were also practising in the same complex in adjacent rooms.
Dr. Rajkumar was a friend of my younger cousin, Dr. Premnath. I just used to visit him once a while and give my institute notices. I used to be flattered by his sweet nature and down to the earth approach.
Even his wife, Dr. Niraimathi, a skin specialist used to chat with me once a while. She had lot of interest in the Tamil language. Of course, as you may have noticed, her name is a pure Tamil word, meaning "FULL MOON".
Let me narrate an incident.
Since 2007 to improve my bone strength, I used to daily take calcium tablets. And often get free samples from my doctor cousin, Premnath.
Even Dr. Rajkumar used to send me calcium tablets often through his nurse or sometimes give it himself. I could forget his sweet manners. Once he even asked me whether giving these free tablets while I am taking classes will be considered as a disturbance.
It was a very pleasant surprise. I wished to emulate such good manners a bit. It was the highest manners I had ever seen from a known doctor.
Another unforgettable incident on Deepavali Eve
Due to my father's unique character traits, we don't celebrate Hindu functions except the harvest festival, PONGAL.
So deepavali was nothing more than a Sunday for me all my lifetime. I recall a few decades ago, while I working, I will opt to work on Deepavali Eve and thereby enable other staff members to available leave and enjoy the festival.
Of course, after marriage, I will go to my father in law's house and my daughters will have a jolly time there.
I vividly recall in 2010 on the eve of Deepvali, Dr. Rajkumar got me a big box of sweets. He knows that we don't celebrate Deepawali.
NEVER IN MY LIFE I GOT SUCH A
SURPRISE GIFT ON DEEPAVALI.
Another unforgettable deepavali sweet box was delivered in person by my close friend, Prakash M S.
Unfortunately Dr. Rajkumar and his wife moved out of the complex to some where else. I think, presently he works in Manipal Hospital, Salem.
However, I am glad to say that we are still maintaining contacts via WhatsApp.
