THE POWER OF FRIENDSHIP
..
Once a Sanyasi was taking class to his sishyas in his ashram. He was explaining about friendship. He said, “IF A GOOD PERSON MINGLES WITH A GROUP OF BAD PERSONS, SOON HE WILL ALSO BECOME A BAD PERSON. HOWEVER, IF A BAD PERSON JOINS A GROUP OF GOOD PERSONS, SOON HE WILL ALSO BECOME A GOOD PERSON. SUCH IS THE POWER OF FRIENDSHIP, HENCE, WE SHOULD ALWAYS BEEN IN THE GROUP OF GOOD PERSONS.”
Immediately a sishiya stood up and asked, “Guru, why dont a good person join a group of bad persons and try to correct them?” In order to prove his point, the Sanyasi asked a person to bring a pot and a small cup.
“This pot will get full only if your pour 100 cups of water inside it. Assume that we pour 99 cups of milk inside it and one cup of water. Now I want you to answer my question – What happens to the one cup of water poured inside the pot?” For this the sishya answered, “That one cup of water also turned into milk, Guru”.
The Sanyashi agreed and continued, “Yes you
are right. But suppose you do vice versa i.e. you pour 99 cups of water and one
cup of milk inside, then what will happen?” For this the sishya said, “The milk
will also turn into water.”
“Yes, you are again right and I hope it clears your doubt. So now you would have understood the power of friendship. He insisted that we should always mingle with good people.
