“NEVER GO BACKTO
THINGS YOU WILL NEVER DO AGAIN”.
By -Dr.Henry
Cloud
Nowadays
books with titles like “What Should You Do To Succeed? “ Or “What Does People
Who Had Succeeded Did?” are now available in plenty in the bookshops. But this
book takes an opposite approach. It elaborates on things that successful people
“never” do. By avoid doing unwanted things you get more time to do useful
things. You should never keep on wasting time on the same thing which you have
already done enough times. *** ***
He
also asks us not to do things that go against our personality or basic
character traits. If you do that, one day or the other your original character
will come out and it will spoil everything. He also suggests not to waste time
in trying to “convert” people into successful persons. He tells just make one
attempt to do that and if that fails stop doing anything further.
The man
who goes to the bar in the early mornings, a person who never does things that
is to be done, an employee who always does not complete his work, a partner who
can not match with your skills and talents. For all the above persons, please
don’t try to change them more than once. He tells all repeated attempts to
change the nature of a person will always end up in failure. Then he tells that
if one really wants to succeed in life, one will have to earn the displeasure
of at least a few persons. If you want to keep everybody happy then you can do
nothing useful. He wants us to note the fact that a successful person is not
liked by everybody. Hence, there is no point in making “everybody” happy.
A
person who runs a hotel wants to expand it by changing to a new location. But
he finds it difficult to get a place for rent. After that he runs from pillar
to post to get a license for his hotel. Then the neighbours complain about the
smoke coming out of the hotel kitchen’s chimney. He faces all the challenges
and runs the business with determination. Finally he gets three times profit in
the new place. “Challenge does not give more pains. It is the path to success.”
The
author tells opportunities “neglect” people who “neglect” to sweat out and work
hard. He asks us to anticipate more sweating in the future path to success. He
tells us not to believe when anyone tells that he is as honest as Gandhi or as merciful
as Mother Teresa. Everyone have their own weaknesses. Try to search for really
good people, but also accept people who are a little imperfect.
Be
always clear on what you want to do in life. Chase away all petty problems like
batting a mosquito. Don’t get broke down by petty problems. He tells us not to ever
try to copy others. He adds it is wrong to try to become like Mr.X or Mr.Y. He
warns us that if our energy is spent in this direction, then it will become a
total waste.
A
donkey should not to try to learn singing. It is totally irrelevant to a
donkey. It may get angry on seeing the master and it may give him a kick. God
did not create a donkey to sing songs. Similarly, we should not try to copy or emulate
others, but try to be our true selves.
He further
warns us that we should never have a narrow mind. Our brain has an excellent
capacity to think for the future. If you do a job in a hurry with a temporary
plan, you will face failure. But if you work towards a long-term goal and have
a broad-mind, you will definitely succeed. He asks us to ask ourselves the
below given question often. “Where am I now? What is my present position?”
One
basic difference between successful persons and others is that successful
persons address the above question honestly. The author provokes us to think “What is my role in the
present situation”. Just understanding
the situation alone will not lead us to success. After understanding it, you
should suitably change things that need to be changed. Only then you will
succeed.
The
invisible sub-conscious mind is creating the visible outer life that we live.
Leading a very enjoyable inner (sub-conscious) life only will enable us to do
certain actions automatically. This will eventually lead us to success. He says
that the more we use the power of our sub-conscious mind, the more successful we
will be. Remember any outer factor can never succeed in changing our inner or
sub-conscious self. To put it in another way, you can not be “Jacky Chan” in
your inner life and “Sylvester Stallone” in our real life.
Your
attitude towards a work also decides what you are going to get from it.
Remember even our happiness is defined by what we think about yourself and not
by any external factor.
We
very easily choose our targets and methods to reach them. But we have no choice
in declaring whether we have succeeded or failed. If you read and try to follow
the strategies elaborated in this book by Dr.Henry Cloud, then you can very
easily reach the sweet fruit called “SUCCESS”.
